About my background and therapeutic approach:

My passion for helping others and belief in the power of empathy, compassion, and connection to transform lives led me to become a therapist. I use evidence based practices and tailor the therapeutic modalities used to meet specific client needs. I primarily use the modalities of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapies (SFT and SFBT), mindfulness-based therapies (MBCT, MBSR, etc), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), motivational interviewing (MI), etc.

I have experience in the areas of crisis management, case management, addiction treatment, group / individual / family / couples therapy, grief counseling, clinical assessment, inpatient / intensive outpatient therapies, and supporting clients with LGBTQIA+, sexual wellness, medical/health, autism, neurodivergent, dual diagnosis, trauma-related, cancer, and caregiver needs.

Additionally, I have experience working with individuals who are grieving/have experienced losses or dramatic changes in their lives. I have a passion for helping individuals process their grief, find meaning and purpose in life post loss, and discover new joys in a life that is different from that which they had planned.

Furthermore, I have experience working with individuals with chronic illness/terminal illness/debilitating health conditions. I am passionate about helping these individuals access supports/community resources to meet their needs while coping with medical/health stresses. I find great fulfillment in facilitating individuals in learning to cope and finding small joys/purpose that bring renewed satisfaction/peace/pleasure in life. I am also passionate about supporting caregivers/partners of those coping with illness.

In my career, I have enjoyed working with the LGBTQIA+ community. I believe strongly in social justice and fighting for human rights for people of all gender/racial/ethnic/cultural/spiritual/sexual orientation backgrounds. I am sex-positive and work with individuals in non-traditional relationships or employed in sex work vocations. I have experience working with clients transitioning, exploring their sexuality/gender identity, and/or desiring to improve their sexual wellness. It is a pleasure to support clients in these journeys and to share their joy in embracing their sexual orientation/gender identity/sexuality and meeting sexual health needs.

In addition, I enjoy exploring spiritual health with clients who may have experienced trauma in religious settings in the past or wish to better meet their spiritual needs. I also enjoy working with clients who wish to have a secular focus in therapy. I believe that spirituality is deeply personal and is very different from religion. I define spirituality as a sense of purpose and connection to others and the world around a person. It may or may not involve belief in God/religious teachings/a supreme being, but typically involves individuals finding a connection with something bigger/greater than themselves in the community/world/universe. Individuals may find a higher power in nature, a supportive group or sponsor, the universe, or belief in positivity, love, or goodness that exists in everything. Furthermore, I have experience with counseling from a Christian/Buddhist/mindful perspective, and enjoy supporting clients in exploring religion or their personal faith as a tool to help facilitate their recovery.

I love animals, have a rescue dog, and have experience using animals in a therapeutic capacity, though, I do not provide ESA letters.

Languages: I speak some Spanish and ASL, but I am not fluent.
